چکیده

The deepest problems we have to understand and resolve are in these relations of nature and livelihood.... [T]he central change we have to make is in the received and dominant concept of the earth and its life forms as raw materials for generalized production.... But in the equally necessary perspective of ... an apparently unmediated nature—the living world of rivers and mountains, of trees and flowers and animals and birds –-it is important to avoid a crude contrast between “nature” and “production,” and to seek the practical terms of the idea which should supersede both: the idea of “livelihood” within, and yet active within, a better understood physical world and all truly necessary physical processes. ––Raymond Williams, Between Country and City
